I just don’t understand the media. I really don’t. I don’t understand their logic, or the purpose of its existence. I don’t understand what the media is trying to prove,do, or the message its trying to give our young children. Everyone is well aware of our rise in obesity. North American’s are heavier then we have ever been, we buy into the fast food industry and eat more then we have ever eaten. We are all aware that we are fat, large and obese. So my question to the society is why? Why are we like this? Some reasonable explanations are things like convenience, time, social aspects, depression, and loneliness. People eat to feel better, its comfort food. We eat because we don’t have time to cook meals anymore. We eat because we think it’s cheaper to go buy a 6$ meal at McDonalds then to spend 50$ on groceries and make 5 meals. Whatever the reason may be- it is a fact. So here is my confusion…
The media makes being skinnier a lot harder then it looks. They think that those models, and celebrities act as incentive when really its actually depressing, and what do we do when we’re depressed? WE EAT ! We try and shop at “popular” stores and buy clothing with all the popular names, but do you know how difficult the media actually makes it? Can you try and picture your self as a little bigger of a person and trying on jeans and trying to squeeze yourself into double zero sizes. You get double zero, zero, 1, 2, 3, 5 and 7. What the hell is that? What about the people who have a little bit more meat on their bones? Or what about the people who just have bigger bones? You can have a bigger frame without being fat! It’s called big bones! You can’t lose that, you can’t shrink bones ! So these young people, who are bigger then double zero, they just want to fit in! They just want to wear nice clothes like everybody else and when they can’t fit into these sizes, or it looks bad- they get depressed. And what do we do when we’re depressed? WE EAT! Its this terrible, repetitive circle that will not stop. We want to be skinny, we try to diet, we try to exercise and the media uses small sizes for what? Incentive to do so? But when it doesn’t work and when we aren’t as pretty or skinny as the people on TV we get down on ourselves, we feel bad about ourselves, we get depressed, and cure these negative feelings with food !
Now I know that for some people it is quite simple. Quit smoking, stop eating fast foods, cook healthier meals, live better and feel better. But the logic of this cycle is just absurd. I just want everyone to know that noses come in all different shapes and sizes and so do people! Your waist size does not define you, the clothes you wear doesn’t make you a better person. YOU DO! Don’t buy into what media tells you, don’t be the person that other people think you should be. You are beautiful inside as out. As long as you aren’t a bitch, as long as you are honest, truthful, nice, giving and respectful- you are beautiful. Be who you want to be. No matter how bad you are feeling about yourself, no matter how terrible you think you look you are a winner. Every person on this earth is a winner. You were success from the day you were conceived. Because one day, when your parents were trying to create you- in that very moment you won that race! You were the winner! You made it and that is a blessing that should be emphasized, that should be embraced.
Live the life that you won. Be the person you were meant to be and don’t let ANYONE else tell you how you should be, what you should wear, where you should go or how to act. You are the driver of your own soul, so run. Run with opportunities, seize the moment, live your life but most of all- be yourself! Why? Because Kristyn Says !
all i have to say is…this is AMAZING and SO true…you took the words right out of my mouth! awesome job!
Hey Sitch — Lovely! I couldnt agree more with you. Society places such great importance on weight. Just look at what the media was portraying back in the 60′s as the perfect girl. All woman were bigger then. Just look at Marilyn Monroe! She would have been considered huge today!
Eating though is a habit. It is something we can control. For many people it is something that brings great pleasure, for others it is simply a way to stay healthy. Each person has to make that choice.
We all come in different shapes and sizes. The best thing is that we all make the decision on how we want to appear to the rest of the world with what we have.
On another note, I frequently practice a special diet that I use when Im feeling a little bigger than I am happy with. For anyone that wants to lose weight I highly recommend following it. 2-4 weeks of it and you will see huge change.

Those who are once found to be bad are presumed to be so forever.
